Heavy metal icons Metallica are reportedly set to play at least one show in Perth when they tour Australia in 2025.

According to Rolling Stone, the American rockers are primed to light up Optus Stadium on Saturday, November 1 before heading east.

In what would be a major coup for WA, Metallica haven’t performed in the State since 2013 when they headlined Soundwave festival.

Only last month, the band announced an extension to their M72 World Tour and teased global followers of their plans.

“Finally, North America is not our only stop in 2025, as this year, we will return to Australia and New Zealand after far too long away!!!” a statement read.

“Stay tuned for the full announcement coming VERY soon.”

A page dedicated to the band on Live Nation’s website — their touring agent — encourages fans to stay in the loop by joining the waiting list for tickets.

“Be the first to know when Metallica is touring Australia & New Zealand,” the page reads.

Hitting up each city with their “no repeat weekend”, the Enter Sandman hitmakers continue to promise at least two nights in each location where they perform completely different sets.

Even their opening acts are rotated, with fans able experience two entirely different shows in the one city.

Supporting artists billed so far include Architects, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch Mammoth WVH, Ice Nine Kills, Volbeat, and Greta Van Fleet.

In 2019, a scheduled tour of Australia and New Zealand was forced into postponement when lead singer James Hetfield entered rehab after 15 years of sobriety.

The tour, which included a singular date in Perth, was later cancelled due the pandemic.

WA fans have become accustomed to major acts snubbing them for larger cities due to logistical and travel barriers.

Earlier this year, Taylor Swift chose to focus her energy on wowing Sydney and Melbourne with multiple shows in each city, as well as Olivia Rodrigo who this month followed suit.

But WA has had some luck over the east coast in securing major entertainment events.

British rockers Coldplay played an exclusive show at Optus Stadium in November 2023, with reports the WA Government had injected $8 million into getting the tourism ploy ticked off.

Hosting the WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth in March, the event was the most-attended and highest-grossing Elimination Chamber event in WWE history.

“We said we’d put WA on the map for major events, and my Government is delivering,” Premier Roger Cook said in regards to last financial year.

“We’re successfully securing global-scale events, putting the eyes of the world onto Western Australia, bringing in tens of thousands of visitors, and helping our city reach its full potential.”

In 2023-24, the WA Government reportedly raked in $105 million as a result of the largescale events it secured.
