2025 Mazda 2 price and specs: Manual dead, base price up
Mazda Australia has killed off another manual transmission option, this time in the form of the base Mazda 2.
Several models have lost the option of a do-it-yourself gearbox over the last few years, including the Mazda 3, CX-30, CX-3 and CX-5.
The BT-50 ute and MX-5 sports car are now the only Mazdas offered with a manual locally.
The Mazda 2 range has been consolidated from four trim levels down to two, with the Pure and Pure SP axed for the 2025 model year. As a result, the entry price has risen to $26,990 before on-road costs for the Evolve – up by $4120 over the outgoing Pure.

Prices are also up right across the lineup, from $120 for the GT to $620 for the Evolve. Even in Evolve form, the Mazda 2 is now dearer than the new MG3 and Suzuki Swift Hybrid.
On top of a range restructure, the 2025 Mazda 2 has gained a pair of safety features – Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) and Smart Brake Support (SBS), the latter being a more sophisticated autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system.
The now base Evolve model also comes with new 16-inch black alloy wheels.
The Mazda 2 range is mechanically unchanged apart from the loss of the manual, and continues to be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine.
