EVDirect, BYD’s local distributor, has confirmed the luxurious Denza brand will be launching in Australia during 2025.

At this stage the company hasn’t confirmed what its local model lineup will look like from launch. But Denza, which is now wholly owned by BYD, currently offers a wide range of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric vehicles (EVs) in China.

Earlier this year it began producing right-hand drive vehicles for Hong Kong, which was the first region outside its mainland domestic market to offer Denza vehicles.

The only Denza vehicle currently offered in Hong Kong is the D9 electric people mover, a rival to the likes of the Zeekr 009.

In China, there’s also a plug-in hybrid version of this people mover available, called the D9 DM-i.

Other Denza models either already on sale or very soon to be offered in China include the N7 and N8 mid-size SUVs, the N9 large SUV, the Z9 sedan, and the Z9 GT liftback.

All of these vehicles are available with all-electric or plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Beyond Hong Kong and Australia, a European and UK launch for the Denza brand is also rumoured.

After the creation of a joint venture company between BYD and Mercedes-Benz (then Daimler) in 2010, the Denza brand was launched in 2012.

At the time, Denza was a 50:50 joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, but in 2021 the latter reduced its share in the company to 10 per cent.

Last month, however, Mercedes-Benz sold its remaining 10 per cent stake in Denza, now making it wholly owned by BYD.
