ROADSTER TO CYBERSTER

MG has come a long way in the last century. Its story began in a garage in Oxford, England, in 1924, and there followed some classic British sports cars — the MG TC Midget, MG BGT and MG Roadster, to name just three of our favourites.

MG is now owned by global vehicle maker SAIC, which delivered more than five million vehicles in 2023.

Locally, MG Motor Australia launched in 2016 and quite quickly gained a foothold in the national market. In 2023, MG Motor Australia was ranked 7th in sales and had Australia’s best-selling light hatchback and compact SUV — the MG3 and MG ZS respectively.

In 2024, there have been two new hybrid vehicles, the MG3 and MG ZS, and the globally awarded all-electric Cyberster (with its nod to those early MGs).

There’s no change to model line-up or pricing.

The GWM H6GT was launched in Australian in July 2022. A GWM spokesperson says: “The model continues to play a pivotal role in the range as it pioneers PHEV for GWM in early 2025.”

As we went to press, 3140 H6GTs had been sold year-to-date in 2024 — just over eight per cent of GWM’s total sales.
