Have you found your passengers are getting bored while riding shotgun in your Porsche? Worry not, because the German brand is now offering YouTube on the in-car screens in five models.

Already available on the Macan electric SUV, Porsche has now added YouTube integration to the 911, Cayenne, Panamera, and Taycan.

Not only is it included as standard in newly configured eligible models, owners of existing Porsches which have in-car video functionality can add YouTube for free via an over-the-air software update.

Porsche says YouTube functionality is integrated into its cars’ Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, with videos shown on the passenger display – not the central infotainment screen.

All compatible Porsche models can play YouTube on their central infotainment screens when the car is stationary, so as to not distract the driver while on the move.

However, Cayennes, Panameras, and Taycans can be optioned with a second passenger-oriented display – which isn’t visible from the driver’s seat – allowing those who ride shotgun to watch YouTube while the car is in motion.

Users will have the option of logging in to their personal YouTube accounts, through which they’ll be able to access individual video recommendations, stored playlists, and subscribed channels as if they were using a computer or phone.

Porsche isn’t the first brand to offer YouTube on its cars’ screens either. Google has previously rolled YouTube, games, and the Zoom video conference app in Polestar and Volvo cars, while Audi brought YouTube to specific models in Europe and US last year.

Porsche says users will be able to utilise YouTube not only for entertainment, but also to learn about potential rest stops at places of interest or restaurants along their route.

They’ll also be able to access “tips on inspiring routes” should they wish to take a scenic detour. Equally, the YouTube portal also contains videos created by Porsche to help owners understand the functions of their vehicles.

In any case, Porsche says YouTube works free of charge within its PCM system, and no prior registration is required.
