Cancer Shucks This fittingly named event offers a luxurious day on Rottnest Island for a worthy cause. On April 6 guests will take a private charter ferry to the island at 3pm before enjoying drinks, canapes and an oyster sale that promises incredible prizes at Mediterranean-inspired Havza at the Basin. Tickets are $250 per person with proceeds from the tickets and oyster sales going towards melanoma research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. Coogee Live Sydney-based puppeteer Erth will bring their Divers to Coogee Live, a huge festival with more than 150 free activities along Coogee Beach on March 8 and 9. The otherworldly divers will mingle with the crowds both days, while the popular Great Mermaid Migration is at 10.30am near the jetty on the Saturday and as the sun sets, fire performers Dangerous Delights and the lantern parade will entertain. Foodies can head to the Ocean Kitchen Garden for sessions with chefs Scott Brannigan (Coogee Common), Ben Ing (Alberta’s Kitchen), Melissa Palinkas (Young George) and Paul Iskov (Fervour). Along the 1.5km stretch, there will be everything from ice baths and aerial yoga to kids education and storytelling inside a 10m-high frilled neck lizard and spotted quoll from Nylon Zoo. The recently-opened The Good Grocer on Silas Street, East Fremantle, has a selection of the famous holiday spot’s treats, which arrive each morning by ferry. Island favourites including cream buns, caramel slice, lamingtons and sourdough and multigrain rolls are part of a 1575sqm store stacked with fresh and premium produce, including ready-made meals, a delicatessen with WA cheeses and a bottle shop with some great local drops.
