Emily Johnson, Stuart McDonald and Shannon Suvaljko each secure doubles at the Albany Harness Racing Club

Drivers Emily Johnson, Stuart McDonald and Shannon Suvaljko all claimed winning doubles in Albany on Saturday night while The Beach Master and This Time Jacko won heats of the Harry Capararo Memorial. In a busy night of pacing at the Albany Harness Racing Club, Johnson won the first and last races on the program. She was successful aboard $34 chance My Grand Angus in race one over 2265m for trainer Bianca Ashcroft. The three-year-old settled in the back half of the field but stormed home to win his second career race by 8.6m. Johnson brought up a double when she steered Briggs On Bond ($6.50) to victory in the final event over 1832m for trainer Errol Ashcroft. Briggs On Bond was three back on the pegs at the bell lap but finished strongly to edge out Lizzie Thorpe ($5.50) by 2.1m on the line. Heat two of the Harry Capararo Memorial was taken out by The Beach Master, trained and driven by Wesley Andrews. The five-year-old gelding jumped a $4.40 chance and sped straight to the front for Andrews, going on to score a comfortable victory by 11.7m over Your Grace. Andrews however was suspended for causing crossing in the main straight on the first occasion and was banned for driving for seven days by stewards as a result. The second heat of the memorial also over 1832m was taken out by leading trainer Hayden Reeves and McDonald. They teamed up with This Time Jacko ($23) who had the ideal run in the race and got the better of Our Eagle Bay ($6.50) in the final stages while $1.22 favourite Liquidator led but tired late to run fourth. McDonald also guided Firefly home to victory in the Albany Signs Pace (2265m) at the short odds of $1.65 for the Michael Young stable. Lang Inwood and Suvaljko brought up a winning double together, starting with Beyond Bling in the Albany Scaffold Hire Pace (2265m). Beyond Bling was heavily supported into a $1.07 favourite and blitzed his rivals to win by 10.6m. Lets Rock Tonight ($1.30) had to work hard for victory in race seven over 1832m but Suvaljko got the best out of him late to prevail by 3.5m. Local owner Ken Davies had success in race five when his pacer Koolbardi Navajo got up to win in a thrilling finish. Albany trainer-driver Tim Stone got the mare across the line, downing Sporting Grace by a head. It was the second win in three starts for Koolbardi Navajo and third in her 13-start career. Albany will host another meeting at Harold Reid Paceway this Saturday.
