IN PICTURES: Coming together for a good cause as ADCA ladies’ day fundraises for the McGrath Foundation

The Albany and Districts Cricket Association held its annual Ladies’ Day event on Saturday, with more than 30 women turning out to support the fundraising effort. The event coincided with the Pink Stumps round at ADCA, which raises money and awareness for cancer care in the community and across Australia, and proceeds from Ladies’ Day were split between the ADCA and the McGrath Foundation. Ladies’ day co-ordinator Tessa Wood said the day had gained in popularity in its second year. “We started Ladies’ Day last year, so this will be the second year for the association,” she said. “It was originally started to celebrate the women of cricket, including players, mums, sisters, daughters, cousins, aunties. “I think it sometimes goes unrecognised how much the women do behind the scenes for the men that play cricket. “We had it for the first time last year, which was a lot of fun, and then we thought this year, ‘why don’t we tie it in with the Pink Stumps round?’, which is the McGrath Foundation fundraiser. “We’ve been raising funds for cancer care with our event today as well, selling raffle tickets, and proceeds from the tickets sold today also went into the fundraising effort. “I would say we’ve raised a fair bit so far, and it’s been a lot of laughs. “I’ve been over here watching, and everyone seems to be very social and lots of smiles. “I would say lots of fun’s been had while everyone’s together for a good cause.”
