Margaret River Senior High School’s annual Creating Identity exhibition opens at Mala Bardip Mia
The annual exhibition of work by the region’s high school-aged artists and crafters kicked off this week at the Margaret River Heart.
Creating Identity is the yearly Margaret River Senior High School exhibition giving its young creatives the chance to show their work to a local audience.
On display are more than 100 pieces produced as part of studies across a range of subjects including visual art, woodwork, metalwork and photography undertaken by Year 10, 11 and 12 students.
MRSHS technology teacher Josh Hardy said the exhibition was set up on Wednesday for two weeks in the Heart’s foyer.
“Creating Identity is an exhibition that showcases the talents of MRSHS students,” he said.
“A diverse range of work including ceramic, wood, metal, jewellery and photography will be on display.
“The work reflects the effort and dedication of students and teachers to the creation of quality products in fine art, photography and fine woodwork classes.”
Mr Hardy said his students were looking forward to the opportunity to showcase and potentially sell their artworks.
Junior woodworkers Riley Smith and Sid Englert said their first exhibition was the culmination of a full year’s effort.
The pair are both keen on carpentry, with Sid already undertaking an apprenticeship.
Riley’s table was finished off just in time for this week’s exhibition launch, and features a mix of marri and jarrah with a fine finish.
He said he enjoyed working with the materials and focusing on the precision required.
Creating Identity holds its official opening on Friday at 6pm and runs until Thursday, November 21.
