Margaret River’s Jack Robinson looking to bounce back to form in Australian leg of WSL Championship Tour

Margaret River’s Jack Robinson is looking to put a slow start to the season by his own lofty standards behind him in the Australian leg of the World Surf League’s Championship Tour. Ahead of the Margaret River Pro, which has been pushed back to a May 17 start date this year, the competition is currently in Victoria for the Bells Beach Pro, after which it will move to Queensland for the Gold Coast Pro from May 3-13. Heading into Bells Beach, Robinson sat in ninth place on the Championship Tour’s standings on 13,490 points, well behind the runaway leader in Brazil’s Italo Ferreria on 28,630 and second-placed Australian Ethan Ewing on 20,235. His season so far has seen him finish third in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Pro and fifth at the Portugal Pro but he has found the going tougher at his other stops, exiting both the Pipe Pro in Hawaii and the El Salvador Pro at the round of 32. Robinson made a strong start at Bells Beach on Tuesday, sailing through to the round of 32 by recording a two-wave score of 12.93 in his heat. Regardless of where he sits on the standings, Robinson shapes as the surfer to beat at his hometown event, which he won in both 2022 and 2024.
