The road between Port and South Hedland was closed for about three hours today, with no alternative routes available, after a crash just before 11am today.

Police and emergency services closed Port Hedland Road after a semi-trailer and a four-wheel-drive collided near the Redbank Bridge overpass. The road was re-opened at 2pm.

A WA Country Health spokesman said three males were being treated following the incident, with one male in a serious condition with life-threatening injuries. The spokesman said another patient was listed as serious but stable and the third was stable. All three casualties were being treated at Hedland Health Campus. The incident occurred just south of the Redbank Bridge, close to the Saltpan St turnoff, which is popular with tourists stopping to photograph Hedland’s salt works and railways leading to the port.

A crushed white four-wheel-drive was visible at the accident site, resting on its roof, while the truck was a single trailer vehicle.
