Cleo Smith found: Police scour home where Terence Kelly used to live with his grandmother

Detectives spent time on Tuesday at a house neighbouring where the man accused of abducting Cleo Smith used to live with his grandmother.

The South Carnarvon home, which is 600m away from the Smith family home, was reportedly occupied by Terence Kelly and his grandmother just months before Cleo’s abduction.

Two detectives spoke to the owner of a neighbouring property for almost one hour before leaving.

Mr Kelly moved from that area to a house in Tonkin Crescent, where he allegedly held four-year-old Cleo captive for 18 days.

Neighbours said that Mr Kelly was “very quiet” and they were “shocked” to find out he was the man charged.

“They’re quiet. They never said nothing at all — not even a hello from him,” one neighbour said.

“We’re very shocked. We still can’t get over it.”

The neighbours also reported seeing Mr Kelly last Tuesday night, they day before Cleo was rescued, at the TAB putting bets on with an unidentified woman.

“He was at the TAB putting bets on while the little girl was in the house,” they said.

The three neighbours believe others may have helped look after Cleo.

“I reckon he had help,” they said.

“Someone else was involved and someone else knows something, and that’s not right.”
