A couple has escaped uninjured after a car rammed into a milk bar in Melbourne’s north.

Emergency services were called to a milk bar on Magnolia Boulevard in Meadow Heights just before 1am on Wednesday.

Police had received reports two men were trying to douse a car in the store with liquid after they rammed the car into the store.

The car then caught fire. The pair left in another dark coloured car.

A man and a woman who live in a home attached to the milk bar managed to escape uninjured.

A neighbour told 9 NEWS he and other neighbours had tried to get the couple out.

“We knew there were people living there, so we just tried to get them out, knocking on the door,” Volkan Sahinkaya told 9News.

“Then eventually the police came around and we kicked the door and they kind of ran out in shock.

“They were shocked, they didn’t know what was happening.”

Mr Sahinkaya said he’s unsure how the couple didn’t hear the noise.

A crime scene has been established, with investigators earlier cordoning the area off.

An arson chemist and detectives were set to attend the scene on Wednesday, with police to investigate whether the incident is linked to any other recent incidents.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said they were called to the scene about 12.50am.

“Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes and the response was escalated,” the spokesperson said.

“Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and attacked a structure fire involving a single storey brick building and a vehicle.

“The scene was deemed Under Control at 2.59am.”

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
