Family of alleged Hedland murderer Joanne Alexi Nundle pay tribute to victim Mr Dunstan outside court

The family of a Hedland woman who allegedly murdered her partner by hitting him with her car has paid tribute to the victim, saying they “miss him so much”. Mr Dunstan, 34, was found seriously injured on Kennedy Street on Monday following a traffic collision at about 10pm. Police alleged his carer and partner Joanne Alexi Nundle, 32, ran him down while he was on a mobility scooter. Mr Dunstan was taken to hospital but later died, with Ms Nundle facing South Hedland Magistrate’s Court today charged with murder. It is understood Mr Dunstan used a mobility scooter because he had one of his legs amputated in 2019. Speaking to the North West Telegraph outside of the South Hedland Court, Ms Nundle’s sister, Kelly Marie Nundle, said both sides families were distraught by the tragic events. “I would like the family to know I am missing my brother-in-law so much, my kids are missing him, they would love to sit down and have a game with him,” she said. “They cry every night for their uncle.” Mr Dunstan’s nephew Richard Nundle also spoke briefly. “Goodbye Uncle William,” he said. The couple had posed for a number of photos together that had been posted to social media over the last four years, many of which had been edited to include love hearts and sayings. A picture first posted to Mr Dunstan’s Facebook profile in October last year, which was understood to be the most recent image of the two, included a sticker that said “my love my life.” The pair had included each other’s full names into their own individual Facebook profile names. A Banksia Street resident, who did not want to be named, said they heard commotion in the area on the night. “I heard a lot of yelling earlier on in the night, but it’s pretty normal to hear around here,” they said. Another Hedland local, who also did not want to be named, told the North West Telegraph it was unlikely any neighbours would have immediately attended to the incident, as loud noises and arguing were common in the area. All bottle shops within the Town of Port Hedland area were closed by Hedland Police on the Tuesday following the incident. Ms Nundle was remanded in custody to face Stirling Gardens Magistrate’s Court on July 29.
