Northbridge slashing: Perth detectives charge 39-year-old after man cut on neck is discharged from hospital

A 39-year-old man has been charged over a violent attack in Northbridge where he allegedly slashed another man across the neck with a pair of scissors. Perth detectives pounced on the alleged assailant overnight following a manhunt sparked after Dylan Pownall was attacked about 11.45pm on Friday. The man, of Noranda, is due to face Northbridge Magistrates Court on Sunday on charges of with intent to do grievous bodily harm, unlawfully wounds another, common assault — in relation to a second alleged victim, aged 23 — and possessing cannabis. Mr Pownall was out with four friends when he was allegedly approached by a man at the intersection of William and Roe streets who began acting erratically and then followed them down the street. Josh, who was among the five friends, said the man was “trying to make a scene” and pestering the group. He then allegedly verbally abused a woman in the group and started getting aggressive. “We told him to go away and he threatened to cut us,” Josh said. “That’s when he pulled out (the scissors). It all happened pretty quick.” The man allegedly slashed the scissors across the lower part of Mr Pownall’s neck and then fled. Mr Pownall was taken to Royal Perth Hospital and was discharged on Saturday afternoon.
