The woman who drove a car down stairs at Elizabeth Quay on Thursday has been charged by police.

Security guards reported the incident to police about 6.40pm after the woman stopped the Red Honda Civic on a staircase near the children’s BHP Billiton Water Park.

A child under the age of two was in the car at the time.

When police tried to arrest the woman, it will be alleged she punched and kicked an officer.

The 46-year-old Thornlie woman has been charged with assaulting a public officer and will appear in Perth Magistrate’s court today.
