Chidlow fatal: WA’s shocking road toll gets worse after 21-year-old passenger killed days before Christmas

Another family is mourning the loss of a loved one this Christmas after a 21-year-old man became the latest person to die on WA’s roads. The young victim was a passenger in a car, which collided with a tree in Chidlow in the early hours of Saturday. Major crash detectives were investigating the circumstances around the latest fatal accident as the State records its worst annual road toll since 2016. The black 2005 Ford Falcon sedan hit a tree on Liberton Road, near Stone Street, at around 4.20am, police said. When officers arrived at the scene it was too late to save the 21-year-old. Two other young men sustained serious injuries in the collision. A 19-year-old passenger had to be extracted from the vehicle by a fire crew and taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital. The 18-year-old driver was also taken to RPH. Police Commissioner Col Blanch this week said booze and drug buses, hidden cameras and visible highway patrol cars would be out in force over the festive period. The blitz started at midnight on Thursday and runs until midnight on Sunday, January 5. Police have asked for the public’s help with the Chidlow fatality.
