A school bus has been caught up in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Tonkin Highway — with all children on board escaping serious injury.

The northbound right turning pocket of the highway at Champion Drive, in Southern River, was closed just after 8.30am as emergency services were called to the pile-up.

A WA Police spokesman said the school bus, a truck and multiple cars were involved.

The bus was later moved from the highway to a safer location in order for firefighters to safely remove the kids.

Police say none of the children on board were injured.

St John WA said they treated two patients — believed to be from other vehicles — for minor injuries at the scene.

Traffic remains congested in the area and main roads urge commuters to drive with caution.

The highway fully reopened just after 9.15am.
