Mullewa Football Club, Geraldton City Speedway awarded funding to boost facilities under State Govt scheme

Mid West sporting venues will benefit from funding in the latest round of the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund. Mullewa Football Club was granted $29,585 from both the State Government and City of Greater Geraldton to install a fence around the Mullewa Recreation Ground. Geraldton Hotrod and Country Club (Geraldton City Speedway) was successful in securing $42,399 from the State Government and $22,259 from the city to install a new LED race lighting control system and lap timing controllers. City mayor Jerry Clune was elated by the news, which will allow these venues to go to the next level. “Council is always enthusiastic about supporting clubs who are keen to enhance their facilities,” he said. “A new fence will help maintain the turf at Mullewa Recreation Ground which is a key component of the sporting and social fabric of the area. “The new lighting for Geraldton City Speedway will increase the venue’s safety rating, enabling the club to apply to host State and national titles. “Congratulations to both organisations and I look forward to seeing our community enjoying these enhanced venues in the near future.” Grants under the CSRFF consist of contributions up to 50 per cent from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The remaining half of project costs are shared equally between the applicant and city.
