Katanning Senior High School seek local businesses to partner with students in new school-based traineeship

Katanning Senior High School is seeking local business partnerships as part of its new traineeship program to give students studying a certificate practical career experience.

The school-based traineeship program aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application for students by offering hands-on engagement in diverse fields including animal care, retail and trades.

Students will work one day a week at their partnership business for a small amount of money to learn basic skills surrounding their studies as their first steps into the workforce.

Katanning Senior High School principal Mary Griffiths and deputy principal Bill Stewart met Shire of Katanning president Kristy D’Aprile to organise a community forum at the school library to discuss the program’s benefits which will take place on December 5.

Katanning Senior High School executive assistant Renae Garrity said the forum will provide information and connect students to potential business partners.

Ms Garrity said the program will support Katanning’s future workforce.

“By participating in this program, students can develop essential skills and gain a clearer understanding of their future career paths,” she said.

“The program not only supports students in their academic journey but also empowers businesses to contribute meaningfully to the community’s educational landscape.

“By working together, they aim to shape a future workforce that is well-equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”
