Golden City outright leaders after perfect start to 2024-25 KBCA season

Golden City are unbeaten after three rounds of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Cricket Association’s 2024-25 season on the back of a decisive victory last Saturday against Goldrush.

After Goldrush compiled 7-169, Golden City vice-captain Matt Piparo and first drop Jason Bolt ensured a big start to the run chase with identical scores of 62.

Bolt was not out and Uttam Tripathi contributed a valuable 26 as the competition leaders cruised to 5-173 in 24.3 overs.

Zach Hunter led Goldrush’s attack with 3-35 after earlier compiling 21 from the No.3 spot.

Dan Smith anchored Goldrush’s innings with 41, and Jason Knoll and Josh Hourigan batted well for scores of 31 and 22, respectively.

But the last four wickets tumbled for 27 runs as Faraz Akhter snared 2-20.

Also last weekend, second-placed Hibernians beat Sunrisers by six wickets when Tom Hughes (24) and Tom Hannagan (not out 24) guided them to 4-120 in 27.1 overs.

Campbell Bartle earlier snared 4-18 when Sunrisers were held to 118 in 24.4 overs after initially slumping to 5-39.

Aravind Chegonda mounted a rearguard action with a hard-hitting 54 off 49 balls — underpinned by six fours and two sixes.

Chegonda went at a strike rate of 110.20.

St George needed just 19.2 overs to over haul Veterans’ 9-114 in the other match.

Jackson Cooper (30 off 41 balls) and Terence Moore (21 off 31 balls) underpinned St George’s 4-115.

Luke Stewart highlighted Veterans’ innings with an aggressive 53 off 58 deliveries.

Stewart struck five fours and two sixes as Brendan Ryan grabbed 3-17.

Round four will be played on Saturday from 1pm.
