Hundreds of people keen to win a diamond took to one of three raised sandpits last Sunday at the Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster Diamond Dig.

The popular event sees people dig through a makeshift diamond pits — created by a tonne of sand — to search for pegs which are numbered, with each number correlating to a prize.

Troy Oakley and Kimberley Watson each won a .13 carat diamond after uncovering a special coloured peg.

Ms Watson, who works atThe Kimberley Echo , said she had uncovered an unnumbered, coloured peg and was elated to find out this meant she had won a prize.

A woman, whose identity is not known byThe Echo , won the third diamond.

People of all ages and sizes took to giant sandpits just after 10am, digging feverishly in the hope of striking it rich and walking away with a diamond.

The Diamond Dig was this year held as a standalone event after it was last year incorporated into the Moon Fair.
