A molotov cocktail thrown inside a small business is believed to have sparked a suspicious blaze on Thursday morning.

Emergency services received a call that the lit bottle had been thrown through the front door of Babylon Gifts & Accessories about 3am.

Fire crews rushed to the store and doused the flames on Henley Beach Road in Torrensville, in Adelaide’s west.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it caused any structural damage to the property.

Forensic Crime Scene officers attended the premises to conduct an examination of the scene on Thursday morning.

Serious and Organised Crime Branch detective superintendent Shane Addison said Operation Eclipse was working with Western District CIB and Forensic Crime Scene investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

He said they were working to identify the people responsible and establish any links to the suspected criminal activities of persons of interest.

“South Australia Police will not tolerate the risk to the community of these activities and are seeking community assistance to identify those responsible” he said.

Anyone who was in the area between 1.15am and 3.15am and saw suspicious activity or has dashcam footage should contact Crimestoppers.
