A-grade Pirates land grand final spot
The second semifinals of the Port Hedland Softball Competition was played on Saturday with A-reserve Pirates 2 winning against Cougars 13-11 and the A-grade Pirates defeating Jets 17-6, earning them the last spot in the grand final against Raiders.
Pirates 2 and Cougars were completely shut out in the first and second innings. The first scores came from Cougars who brought in five runners, unmatched by Pirates who brought in three.
Cougars looked set to win the match in the seventh, having a four-run lead over Pirates, but were taken by surprise as Pirates found their inner fire to completely shut out Cougars, and bring in six runners to claim the victory and the chance to play in the grand final.
In the A-grade, Pirates earned two runs to Jets’ single in the first inning and then three runs in the second, while keeping Jets to nil.
This pattern was repeated in the third and fourth inning, with Pirates having a lead of eight runs.
The final blow was dealt in the sixth inning with Pirates shutting down Jets while earning another four runs to bring the margin to 11.
The A-reserve grand final will pit Raiders 2 against Pirates 2 at 1pm on Saturday.
In the A-grade, Raiders and Pirates face-off again at 3pm.
