Children turn out to show their talents

Local talent was on display during the heats of Hedland’s Got Talent last week at the Youth Involvement Council Youth Centre.

The three-day event featured primary school children singing, dancing, drumming and performing their hearts out to get through to tomorrow’s final.

HGT judge Robert Lockyer said the turnout at the showcase was massive, with up to 20 kids taking the stage each day.

He said the judging was difficult because of the varied nature of the performances.

“The judges look at confidence on-stage, the way they perform the actual pieces, the originality of the pieces that they come up with, and stage presence,” he said.

“There has been great support for the competition throughout the community.

“It’s always awesome.

“We have so many kids, and so many acts that perform for us.

“The final event as well down at town square — pretty much the entire community comes out to watch the event each year.”

The final of Hedland’s Got Talent has been rescheduled from April 11 to May 9 due to forecasted thunderstorms.
