Club salutes champions of the year
Hedland’s top shooters celebrated their accomplishments at a presentation night last weekend.
The Hedland Sporting Shooters Club celebrated champions and new club records, with Cairn Green, Philip Murray and Chris Lefroy proving practice makes perfect, with the three setting new records across five disciplines.
Cairn Green set a new record for field rifle rimfire with the highest score and record of 356.4, as well as the field rifle centrefire, with the highest score and record of 355.1.
Philip Murray swept away the competition in the CLAS rimfire category with a highest score and club record of 32 as well as the CLAS pistol category with a highest score and club record of 31.
Chris Lefroy took the highest score and new club record of 28 in the CLAS rifle category.
Club champions and runners-up were also crowned in each category, with Chris Lefory champion in the silhouette rimfire rifle and field rifle rimfire. Philip Murray was champion of the silhouette centrefire rifle and cowboy lever action silhouette smallbore.
Munn Chew took the champion’s crown for both the silhouette centrefire pistol and silhouette rimfire pistol, while Cairn Green was the field rifle centrefire leader.
The club also held its annual general meeting, with Nesbit Anderson named president and Philip Murray vice-president and media/scoring officer.
Di Nicholls and Belinda Green were treasurer and vice-treasurer, while David Briggs and Peter Nicholls secretary and vice-secretary. Chris Lefroy will also be the membership officer for 2018.
The captains of each category were also named. This included Philip Murray as field rifle captain, David Briggs and CLAS captain, Jemal Blattner as practical pistol captain, Drew Sheehy as black powder captain and Matthew Stephens as metallic silhouette pistol captain. Vacant positions include captains and vice-captains for the metallic silhouette rifle and shotgun categories.
