Families gather to celebrate our original cultures
The Port Hedland community united to celebrate NAIDOC week with a wide range of events involving everyone from police to schoolchildren to help celebrate the theme of voice, treaty and truth.
The week began with an evening of fun, music and dancing, with a concert in South Hedland last Sunday featuring traditional dances by Torres Strait Islanders and a performance by Kimberley legends the Main River Band.
Children at the Rose Nowers Early Learning Centre were treated to a day of fun activities including a bouncy castle and a Spinifex artist teaching the children traditional painting.
On Wednesday, families gathered at the Youth Investment Centre for an afternoon of face painting, kangaroo stew and boomerang painting.
Community members converged on Wirraka Maya Health Service Aboriginal Corporation for an action-packed Friday taking in cultural dancing, live music and stalls
