Multiple venues around the Pilbara are going all out to broadcast the Matildas World Cup semi-final clash against England on Wednesday night, as the game shapes up to be the marquee Australian sporting event of the year.

Players were mobbed as they left their hotel in Brisbane and again on arrival in Sydney as Matildas fever sweeps Australia in a fashion unfamiliar to so many team members who have spent much of their career kicking balls with “no one watching”.

Other codes have shifted game times so as to not clash with the Matildas, live sites are expanding around the country and there’s a likely public holiday if they win it all.

And in the Pilbara, local pubs are getting behind our women with a number of special events to mark the historic match.

Hedland

The South Hedland Bowling and Tennis Club will have a double happy hour, from 5pm to 7pm, for the match. It will also be giving away prizes throughout the game to certain lucky customers.

Just down the road, Last Chance Tavern confirmed that all nine of its televisions, which are located in the sports bar, the lounge bar, and the beer garden, will be broadcasting the match.

Over in Port Hedland, The Esplanade Hotel has set up a 120-inch projector in its outdoor area so customers can watch the game on a big screen. Its two indoor televisions will also be playing the match.

The Walkabout Hotel and Pier Hotel confirmed they would have the match playing on their TVs but no additional circumstances were being arranged.

The Hedland Junior Soccer Association will also hold a free family-friendly screening of the game at Cemetery Beach Park, with a number of food vans also invited to the event.

Karratha

In Karratha, Stadium 26 sports bar on Sharpe Avenue will have the game played on a whopping 20 different screens throughout the pub.

The famous Tav Sports Bar has confirmed that all three of its TVs will be showing the game, while the Tambrey on Tambrey Drive will offer $15 schnitzels to viewers as they show it on all TVs.

Grand Central Tavern on Cockatoo Street will have the game on all of its big screen TVs throughout the pub, with patrons asked to book ahead to secure a seat.

Newman

The Red Sands Tavern will be playing the match on their eight TVs in the main bar and in the beer garden. The venue has ensured that the sound system will extend into the garden to guarantee those who watch the match outside get the full experience.

The Shire of East Pilbara has also confirmed the big TV in The Square will be broadcasting the match so residents can band together in public to support the Matildas.

Onslow

The Beadon Bay Hotel will show the game on their three inside TVs, as well as their outdoor tv.

Wickham

Rambla Bar and Bistro will show the game on all screens, and offer $25 pizza all day, as well as happy hour from 5-6pm with 25 per cent off drinks

Dampier

The Dampier Mermaid will be showing the game on the big screen at the front bar, as well as the multiple other screens throughout the venue.

The game kicks off at 6pm AWST.

If you’re staying at home, you can watch the game live and free on Channel 7 or 7Plus.
