Leaders pledge to uphold school values

A new generation of leaders has emerged at St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School.

The 11 new leaders were announced at a whole school assembly where the cohort was presented with new badges and made a pledge to uphold the school’s morals and values.

This year Arron Escalante and Talitha Sheen were given the school captaincy, with both citing the previous year’s leaders as their inspiration for applying for the role.

”We just want to show all the kids what being a leader really means and be a role model for Year 1s and other lower school students,” Arron said.

Cynthia Siamutete, Tabona Dube, Tadiwanashe Kuzamba, Harrison Clarke, Nat Cornelius, Zaina Doyle, Kaitlyn Russell and David Fernandes make up the rest of the faction captains and community leaders for the school.

Principal Peter Allan said the students were chosen through a three-step process including activities during leadership day during Term 4 last year and a written application.

“Being a leader can be a difficult thing, so when we looked at the students to decide who is going to be this year’s leaders we looked at a lot of things,” he said.

“Being a leader doesn’t mean you have to know everything about everything. Stepping aside and letting someone with more expertise take charge is just as important.”

While some tears were shed when names were not called, all the Year 6 students pledged to uphold leadership values and be role models for the school.
