New funding to help Hedland Little Athletics rebuild after COVID and better support aspiring athletes

New equipment is coming the way of the Hedland Little Athletics centre, which is one of 40 recipients of a nation-wide grants program. The club will receive $5000 as part of this year’s Coles Little Athletics Community Fund. HLA president Thomas Bennett said the grant would help the centre provide a quality program for local athletes and rebuild its membership base after the club was hit hard by COVID-19. “This grant will really help our little athletes to further develop their skills,” he said. “With the grant, we will purchase quality equipment for kids doing more complex athletics activities while also investing in the safety of our members. “COVID-19 saw our membership numbers dwindle and we hope the new equipment will inspire more kids and families to come join our club.” The club will use the funds to buy scissor mats and timing gate poles. A total of $2.4 million has been donated though the fund to athletics clubs across the country.
