Port Hedland’s Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan may soon be one step closer to fruition as council votes on the terms of reference.

The Town of Port Hedland entered into a Community Safety and Crime Prevention partnership with the office of Crime Prevention as a new State Government initiative for reducing crime and improving community safety.

In the latest step in developing the partnership, council will decide on the terms of reference which will guide the active stakeholders on expectations and responsibilities.

The objectives of the terms of reference is to define the purpose and structures of the Hedland Community Safety Advisory Forum to provide a framework on which the forum can make decisions.

The advisory forum is a body made up of internal and external stakeholders that aim to assist in identifying and offering advice on current and emerging community safety and crime prevention concerns.

The partnership was first developed in 2003; however, the committee was disbanded in 2013 due to a lack of stakeholder attendance and engagement and resulted in a networking session with limited outcomes achieved.
