Port Hedland Cricket Club toppled the top of the table Miners to take home their third successive title

Port Hedland cricket club has taken home the senior grade title for the third year in a row after edging past the Miners Cricket Club in a tight contest on Saturday. The Miners won the toss and elected to bat but were unable to capitalise, posting a modest total of 114. Izzy Kalzee led the way with the bat posting 21 from 38 balls before being dismissed by Port captain Chris Briody. McEnrith Enoch again led the way with the ball taking 3-16 after collecting four scalps against South Hedland in the semi final last week. Port’s run chase was relatively uneventful despite losing their captain in the fifth over for just four runs. They recovered from the early loss to chase down the 115 run target with seven wickets in hand. Kevin Johnston was awarded player of the finals for his 46 from 64 balls in the successful Port run chase. After the match both captains thanked the other team for the spirit in which the game was played. Elsewhere, the Wanderers Cricket Club continued their winning ways in the women’s T20 competition. The Wanderers were again too strong for Port Hedland in the final game of the season edging out a victory in the final over of the game. Port posted 92 from their 20 overs with the Wanderers able to chase them down with two balls to spare. The Wanderers took out the honours in nine of the 11 games between the two clubs this season.
