Hedlanders of all ages headed down to the Hedland Kart Club for the annual Goodline Amateur Hire Kart Championships last Saturday evening.

Ten teams raced around the course in the two-hour endurance battle to prove who was the better driver on the night.

Team Ramrod ended the night as top dogs, closely followed by Tec Services and Going In Dry.

However, despite the friendly competition, club vice-president Shannon Brown said the day was also an opportunity to open the club up to the community

“We wanted to put on a community enduro to get the community a bit more involved in the club and to pay a bit of tribute to all our sponsors and supporters of the year,” he said.

“We’ve notice some people can find it hard to get involved in some clubs so we wanted to open the gates and tell people to bring their kids, family and check out what we do here.”

With the club open to children as young as six and old as 60, Mr Brown said the support and involvement of the day spread like wildfire and it was an incredibly successful day for everyone.

With the club taking a short break for Christmas celebrations now, Mr Brown said everyone was welcome to join in next year and they would help anyone wanting to have a try before diving in.

To get involved and find out more about the sport, locals can contact the club by finding them on Facebook at Hedland Kart Club.
