Spree has town excited
Bustling crowds were treated to a weekend of rides, fireworks, live music and entertainment at this year’s Spinifex Spree at Port Hedland Turf Club.
There were more than 80 stalls at the Town of Port Hedland’s version of the Perth Royal Show, treating patrons to food, handmade items, clothes and jewellery.
The all-important sideshow alley was a hit for all ages, with bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, the Gravitron and Zip Line proving to be popular with everyone.
In his opening speech, Town of Port Hedland Commissioner Fred Riebeling said the festival had been running for 51 years and was a staple of the Town’s social calendar.
“The Spinifex Spree is the biggest event that council puts on in Port Hedland each year,” he said.
“This event is eagerly awaited by the population with children, of course, being the most excited, this family-focused festival has something for everyone.”
Saturday’s festivities culminated with The X Factor winner Reece Mastin rocking the crowd with a voice reminiscent of Jimmy Barnes.
A spectacular fireworks display closed the evening.
