Students from several primary schools in Hedland have been busy brushing up on their speech-making skills as they prepare for an inter-school competition at the end of term.

This term, Cassia Primary, Port Hedland Primary, South Hedland Primary and Baler Primary schools have been provided with the opportunity to conduct their own public speaking programs through the BHP Academic Enrichment Program.

The first round of heats was held at Cassia Primary School last week, with a wide range of topics covered. Enrichment co-ordinator Britta Brown said she was proud of the students who competed.

“I know that some have been very nervous about it and I’m pleased that they have overcome their stage fright,” she said.

Winners from each school will deliver their speeches at the Matt Dann Theatre on October 19.
