Students’ good behaviour and commitment to the community was celebrated last week at the 2017 V Swans presentation lunch.

Throughout the school year, students in the V Swans programs, Shooting Goals and Kicking Goals, earned points for good behaviour and community work, culminating in a presentation for student of the year for each grade group.

This year the top students in Kicking Goals were Jacob Armstrong, David Smith, Thomas Denney, Matthew Stewart, Ryan Clark, Kane Edwards and Clancy Esmonde.

In the Shooting Goals program, Menushi Perera, Ella Taylor, Sencia Chapotoka, Tara Mellberg, Jasmin Kilmartin, Lilly Reen, Morgan Howrie and Ashlee Ward were students of the year.

V Swans Hedland regional manager Tracey Swami said she was proud of all the students and this year’s rounds were close calls in each year group.

“This year we actually have had quite a few different winners and it was refreshing to see some new faces getting awards,” she said.

“Each year it’s always close, but this year it came down to only five to 10 points’ difference in some areas, which could be forgetting their uniform once.”

The afternoon was also an opportunity for the school to farewell well-respected Kicking Goals teacher Shane Beros.
