Students take next step
There were tears, smiles, and heartfelt wishes recently as students at the only high school in Port Hedland waved goodbye to their peers and closed the curtain on their journey.
The Hedland Senior High School Year 12 awards night was held last Wednesday, recognising the highest achievers of the graduating class of 89 students.
Annabella Knight was named dux of the college for university-bound studies, while Luke Garbin was named the VET dux.
Highlights of the evening included the persistence award for ongoing effort throughout school being awarded to Jack Lenhardt; and Rhett Bauchop receiving the academic achievement award, among a plethora of other prizes that were handed out.
Principal Bill Mann said the students had worked hard to make the community proud, and the world was their oyster.
“For the Year 12 (students) it is a moment in their life that they can say they did something,” he said.
“They achieved Year 12 graduation, which for them means a stepping stone for their life is firmly in place.”
Mr Mann said the graduating class did the best they could and built good relationships with the teachers.
“There’s some outstanding people in our group this year, highly focused, dedicated and good people,” he said.
“The world is lucky to have them.”
