It was a massive weekend for diamond sports in Port Hedland with the Swans and Pirates facing off in an action-packed double header to kick off round two of competition.

It was a slow start to the first match on Friday night with both teams scoring just one run each.

Pirates turned up the heat in the second innings with an impressive seven runs to zero, before piling on three more runs in the third.

The Swans were staring down the barrel of another defeat before coming to life in the top of the fourth smashing and crashing their way to an unbelievable 15-run innings to steal the lead.

Swans retained their composure in the fifth and final innings, scoring two runs to three to snatch the victory 19-17.

In the second game of their double header Swans and Pirates faced off in a back and forth high scoring affair.

Both teams’ bats were on fire throughout the seven-inning game with Pirates taking an early lead in the first.

A seven-run second innings by the Swans tied the game before Pirates responded with seven of their own in the third.

It wasn’t long before Swans responded, adding nine runs over the next two innings to trail the Pirates by just two runs going into the home stretch.

Unfortunately for Swans it proved too little, too late, with Pirates getting revenge for their loss on Friday night blasting eight runs in the seventh innings.

In the end Pirates ran away with the victory 28-21 in the action-packed game.
