Tools seized after traffic-stop

Police have recorded a win in their books after recovering more than $1000 worth of stolen power tools last week.

In a routine traffic-stop performed earlier this month, South Hedland police had a chance find, pulling over a South Hedland man who was in breach of a protective bail condition.

Initially charging the man over an outstanding inquiry for breaching a restraining order, after searching the vehicle police allege they found power tools they believed to be involved in a recent burglary.

Following the arrest, officers filed a warrant to search the man’s premises, where they say they found further power tools and other related items and charged the man with unlawful possession, the supply of a prohibited drug, and breaching a protective bail condition.

Sergeant David Rudd said the outcome was excellent and showed goods could be recovered months after a burglary occurred.

“We investigate to the best of our abilities, sometimes there are no witnesses or forensics and sometimes there is, but regardless, when we have things to work off we follow them up to the nth degree,” he said.

“This is a case where Constable Curtain-Neeling, who was involved in the traffic stop, knew of further lines of inquiry to pursue and this time we got a good result.” Residents are encouraged to report any burglary to police by calling 131 444.
