The Town of Port Hedland will be hosting its annual Australia Day celebrations from 5pm-9pm on Saturday, January 26, at the Civic Centre Gardens.

This will be a free event, and will include a range of entertainment for the family to enjoy. Australia Day festivities will kick off at 5pm with a range of activities, entertainment and competitions throughout the evening.

This will include a watermelon-eating competition, live music, circus show, magic show and the Pilbara Ports Authority fireworks spectacular.

Australia Day is an important day of the year, and it is a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate what it means to be Australian.

I encourage everyone to come down to the Civic Centre Gardens and take this opportunity to enjoy being a part of Port Hedland.

The Town of Port Hedland will also be hosting an Australia Day citizenship ceremony and Citizen of the Year Awards on the morning of January 26.

Australian citizenship is more than just a ceremony and forms an important part of Australia Day celebrations.

Receiving your citizenship on Australia Day is a unique and special experience and marks a shared identity, a common bond which unites all Australians while respecting our diversity.

Along with the citizenship ceremony the Town will be recognising the outstanding individuals and community groups with the Citizen of the Year Awards.

These awards are designed to recognise citizens in the community who go above and beyond on a daily basis to make Hedland a better place.

The four award categories include Community Citizen of the Year, Award for Active Citizenship — Group or Event, Community Citizen of the Year — Senior and Community Citizen of the Year — Youth.

The family friendly, alcohol-free event offers a true sense of community spirit hosted by the Town of Port Hedland in conjunction with major sponsors Pilbara Ports Authority.
