Town’s heritage, culture earns awards recognition

Hedland has been named a finalist in the 2017 Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards.

Port and South Hedland have been named finalists in the heritage and culture category of the awards.

Care For Hedland chairwoman Kelly Howlett said the environmental association was proud the town had been named a finalist. “Tidy Towns/Sustainable Communities is so much more than Tidy Towns,” she said.

“It’s a celebration of all things that make our community unique and celebrates all the different activities, large and small, that we as a community have done over the past 12 months.

“Being a finalist in this category is on the back of the terrific work our community does in terms of markets, community events, art exhibitions and the Hedland Art Awards.

“Thank you to all the community groups, businesses and individuals that came together to assist with our entry and judges’ visit this year.”

The State winner and category winners will be announced on Friday, October 20 in Perth.

Ms Howlett said Care For Hedland had already started the work and evidence collecting for its 2018 submission and encouraged all community groups, businesses, organisations and individuals to send in details and photos of events and activities that had taken place since July 1.
