Week left to have say on constitution

Members of the Port Hedland Ratepayers Association have a week to submit changes and concerns before the implementation of a new constitution.

In a meeting last Tuesday, members could see copies of the association’s new draft constitution and ask questions.

After several concerns were highlighted earlier this year, a sub-committee spent three months re-writing the constitution.

Some of the changes relate to who is eligible to be a member of the association.

Association spokesman Arnold Carter encouraged all members to submit suggestions.

“These are just suggestions for (members) to accept, they have not been adopted yet,” he said.

“They are recommendations we have gone through as a sub-committee and for you to go through and come back to us with suggestions.”

Association members will now have another week to submit any changes they believe should be added to the new constitution, after which the sub-committee will have two weeks to implement and send it off to the Department of Trades and Commerce.

Mr Carter said the current constitution and proposed constitution would be available online.
