Dragons fan who allegedly threw meat pie at Bulldogs supporter at NRL game set to front court

A man who allegedly threw a meat pie at a rival NRL supporter during Saturday’s clash between the Dragons and Bulldogs is set to front court.

Video footage of the incident captured a Dragons fan throwing a meat pie at a Bulldogs supporter at Saturday’s NRL match at Kogarah Oval in Sydney’s south.

The Bulldogs supporter was later captured walking up to the camera asking “What are you taking a video of? Me getting hit?” before police talk to a man in a Dragons jersey.

The Dragons have called out a fan after he threw a meat pie at a Bulldogs fan.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said a pie was believed to have “struck several people” at the match on Saturday.

“Police officers patrolling the stadium were alerted to the incident on the eastern side of the general seating area,” the spokeswoman said.

“No injuries were reported; however, the pie is believed to have struck several people.”

The St George Illawarra club slammed the move in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon.

“The Dragons condemn any such behaviour in the strongest terms and will assist the NRL in relation to any breaches of the NRL Spectator Code of Conduct,” the statement read.

“The Dragons would like to sincerely apologise to the Bulldogs fan impacted by the incident.

“We will work with the Bulldogs to contact the fan and pass on our apologies directly.”

The statement said the club wanted all fans “both home and away” to feel safe at games.

“Any behaviour that causes others not to feel safe will be acted upon,” the statement continued.

“The Dragons would also like to stress that the behaviour of one individual should not detract from what was overall a very respectful sellout crowd with fans of both clubs supporting the match in a great spirit.”

The NRL has issued a notice of intention to ban the alleged pie thrower under the spectator code of conduct.

A 26-year-old man was issued a court attendance notice for common assault and behave in an offensive manner in a public place about 4pm on Monday.

The man is set to front Sutherland Local Court on April 15.
