The deteriorating pool lining at the Newman Aquatic Centre is set to be replaced after Shire of East Pilbara councillors assigned more than $170,000 to its construction at their June council meeting.

The lining of the aquatic centre’s 50m pool has come loose in strips and bulged in places in the years since its installation in 2001.

At the June 30 meeting, councillors awarded a tender to Commercial Aquatics Australia to supply and install a new liner to upgrade the ageing infrastructure. Construction works are expected to cost $178,6000.
