Hedland Blazers take out Wickham Wolves in round eight of the North Pilbara Football League women’s comp

The Hedland Blazers moved to third place on the ladder after tearing apart the Wickham Wolves in round eight of the North Pilbara Football League Women’s competition. The Blazers travelled to Wickham Oval for the clash and were in complete control as they stormed to a 98-point victory against the home side. A four-goal opening term set the tone for the visitors, before booting another three straight in the second term to hold a 45-point lead at the main break. The Wolves had no answers to the Blazers forward line as the Hedland team extended their lead by kicking 3.1 in the third quarter. The Blazers continued their dominant performance in the final quarter, seeing out the game in style with a five-goal term. In the end the Blazers showed their improved skills, routing the Wolves 15.8 (98) to 0.0 (0). Hedland’s Heidi Thompson, Peyton Ansey and Shannonlee Pickett each booted four goals while Jasmin Kilmartin kicked two goals and Synarah Murphy booted one. Meanwhile, a wasteful Karratha Falcons claimed a hard-fought victory against Dampier Sharks at Windy Ridge Oval. Both sides struggled to score in the opening term with the Falcons holding a two-point lead after kicking three behinds. The second quarter saw the Falcons control the ball but miss opportunities in front of goal, kicking 1.4 to lead by 13 points at the main break. It remained a close game in the third quarter with Dampier cutting the lead to 10 points after a goal from Shaylah Mckrill. In the end the Falcons proved too strong for the Sharks, dominating the ball in the final quarter to take a scrappy 17-point victory. The final score was Karratha Falcons 2.12 (24) to Dampier Sharks 1.1 (7).
