The heat continued last weekend at Karratha Golf Course and there were ongoing challenging conditions after the cyclone, with some debris remaining on course and a lot of greens still denuded of sand.

Furthermore, the new handicapping system has seen most golfers handicaps cut by two to three shots from the start of February, affecting Saturday results, which have been consistently lower since.

Some players recorded outstanding results despite the challenges.

Playing off a zero handicap with the new handicapping system, president Chris “Chef” Stewart, had a fantastic round on Saturday with 34 off the stick, also placing second in the Stableford event with 20 points, losing on the countback, and taking out NTP on No.16. Taking out the win on Saturday for the Stableford competition, with 20 points, was Daniel “Digger” Holmes, who had an excellent day on course, with third place won by Dani Thoms with a score of 19.

Best lady was won by Wayan Kusniati, also on 19 points, and best vet winner was Steve McNally.

In round six on Sunday, two players recorded 25 Stableford points.

Placing first was new women’s player Leanne Mott, with second place going to Ron Gillies, losing on the countback, while Bill Hutchinson placed third with 23 points after a nine-week hiatus.

Next week, Saturday is Stableford 4BBB on front nine at 2.30pm and Sunday is Scroungers round seven back nine at 12.30pm.
