Vulnerable communities in the Pilbara will get better access to basic items as a Perth charity expands north

The most vulnerable communities in the Pilbara have just received a helping hand as a Perth charity expands northward with support from a resource company. Financial support from Mineral Resources has allowed The Essentials Collective Charity, which provides basic items to vulnerable people, to expand the Collecting the Basics campaign into the Pilbara and Goldfields-Esperance regions. The Collecting the Basics campaign gathers basic item donations and distributes them to local refuges and outreach services. Through the new support program, more than 10 community service centres will receive the donated items in the Pilbara and Goldfields regions. MinRes general manager Heath Nelson said that it was important to provide these services to regional communities that are facing a disadvantage. “MinRes is committed to supporting programs that create genuine positive health and wellbeing outcomes in the local communities in which it operates,” he said. “Regional communities play a vital role in the success of MinRes and the mining industry. We are proud to support local organisations with events and initiatives to help ensure all residents in the community can thrive. “We’re thrilled to be supporting The Essentials Collective to enable them to extend the distribution of donations to regional centres — it’s going to make a real difference to those facing serious disadvantage.” Since it began, The Essentials Collective has distributed more than 226, 000 items to community service providers.
