Karratha-based artist Cathie Creswell and (local) Hedland artists came together earlier this month to produce artwork that will feature on the departures wall at the renovated Port Hedland International Airport.

Ms Creswell said the theme of the paintings was to embrace the spirit of Port Hedland people and the networks that fertilised the growth of its community.

She was commissioned by the Town through Archipelago Arts to design the public artwork.

“These artworks will be photographed and printed onto vinyl, which will then be applied to metal shapes called pollen,” Ms Creswell said.

“I will be running a second workshop at the end of June, where the (Hedland) artists will apply the vinyl onto the pollen. The pollen will then be installed as part of a larger artwork on the departures wall at the airport.

“I would like to thank the artists who participated in the workshops and a big thanks to HARTZ Studio who allowed us to use their studio (for the workshop).”
