The Small Business Development Corporation has developed a free online workshop to help small businesses improve their chances of winning awards.

Small Business Commissioner David Eaton said participants could access the workshop online at any time, where they could watch a video explaining how to write a successful award submission by stepping back and looking at their business with fresh eyes.

“How to write a winning awards submission reveals what judges are looking for, how to identify a competitive edge, and how to best present your business in writing — creatively and succinctly,” he said.

Mr Eaton said the SBDC had held business awards events in WA for more than 20 years and many award winners had gone on to build successful businesses.

He added winning a business award had many benefits, including widespread promotion of the finalists and winners, more customers and increased profits.

“Just the process of entering an awards program gives you the opportunity to stand back, take a good look at your business from an outsider’s point of view, and make some important changes as needed,” Mr Eaton said.

“This online workshop, delivered by an experienced business adviser, can help demystify the process of entering a business award program and set you on the right track to be a winner.”
