Be alert for mozzies
With the rain comes the mosquitoes and the Town of Port Hedland have outlined some easy tips to keep the bugs at bay.
Mosquitoes can transmit various diseases such a Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus and Murray Valley encephalitis.
To assist the town in minimising bug activity residents can ensure all containers are emptied of still water, ornamental ponds and fish tanks are stocked with mosquito-eating fish such as goldfish, pools are kept well chlorinated and filtered, as well as free from leaves, rainwater tanks are screened with insect-proof mesh, gutters cleared, and breeding areas outside properties to the environmental health services for treatment.
The Town’s Environmental Health team have predicted the recent heavy rains will increase mosquito numbers.
